RAJOUB AND OTHER POLITICAL FIGURES STANDING IN MIDDLE OF CROWDWEST BANK, PALESTINE - SEP. 23: On Tuesday, Sep. 23, Fatah Central Committee Secretary-General Jibril Rajoub said international recognition of the State of Palestine should pave the way for sanctions on Israel. Speaking in Ramallah during a demonstration held in parallel with the UN General Assembly’s session on Palestine, Rajoub said the recognition was the result of Palestinians’ steadfast resistance and reflects both their resilience and the growing regional and international support for their cause. He argued that recognition must be the basis for holding Israel accountable for policies that threaten peace and stability, urging punitive measures to follow. Rajoub stressed that Palestinians will continue to resist displacement or surrender, insisting that attempts to suppress their rights will ultimately fail. At least 65,382 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday. The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 12,823 people and injured 54,944 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
