The cast of Dawson's Creek reunited to support co-star James Van Der Beek who is battling cancer.

The cast performed a live table read of the show's pilot episode to raise money for Van Der Beek, 48, who is battling stage 3 colorectal cancer.

Emily Sloane, 41, a finance professional from Boston, Massachusetts, attended the charity event at New York City's Richard Rodgers Theatre and recorded the emotional gathering.

The reunion featured Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Busy Philipps, with Lin-Manuel Miranda stepping in to read Van Der Beek's parts after the actor was unable to attend in person due to illness.

"Unfortunately, a day before, James Van Der Beek said that he could not attend because he was sick," Sloane said. "So they had Lin-Manuel Miranda step in for him to read his part."

Van Der Beek, diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer last year, was forced to withdraw after contracting two stomach viruses amid his treatment.

He did, however, make a surprise virtual appearance via a pre-recorded video message, expressing his disappointment at missing the event and introducing Miranda humorously as his "ridiculously overqualified" understudy."

The charity fundraiser benefited F Cancer, an organization supporting cancer patients and families.

For longtime fans like Sloane, who watched every episode during the show's original run from 1998 to 2003, the reunion was particularly meaningful.

"I was a huge ‘Dawson's Creek' fan. I watched every single episode," she said. "

"It was before you could DVR, so every week I'd be in front of the TV watching the newest episode."

She added: "It was just so special. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house just seeing them all together again and raising money for James."

"It was sad he couldn't be there, but you could feel him in the room."

Van Der Beek's wife Kimberly and their six children joined the cast onstage to sing the show's iconic theme song, Paula Cole's "I Don't Want To Wait," creating a deeply moving moment."

The table read allowed the cast to revisit the characters that launched their careers and defined a generation of television viewers, bringing back memories for fans who grew up watching the show.

For Sloane, who was 18 when she first started watching the series, the reunion represented a full-circle moment.

"You could feel it in the room," she said. "Watching it when I was 18, and to see all those actors get together again, it was awesome."
