Woman, 36, arrested on suspicion of murder after man found dead at house
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead at a house in a picturesque riverside town.
Police were called to the property on Oak Apple Close in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs., at around 9.50am yesterday morning (Mon).
The 31-year-old victim was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.
West Mercia Police said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly afterwards and was now helping police with enquiries.
Neighbours living on the quiet cul de sac today (Tue) reacted with shock to the murder on their doorstep.
Local resident Michelle Shaw said: "I've lived in the street for 23 years. It's always been a quiet place to live."
"It didn't look like anyone was living in the house. I didn't think anyone lived there, I hadn't seen anyone going in and out."
Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "Oh my God. It's shocking. It's very quiet here. I haven't lived here very long and don't know anyone."
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Holehouse said: "A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Stourport, and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time."
"Understandably, an incident of this nature will cause concern amongst residents. "
"However, I would like to reassure the local community that we believe there to be no wider risk to the public."
"Officers will be in the area over the coming days as they continue to carry out their enquiries. "
"If you have any concerns in relation to the incident please do get in contact with us."
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency on Oak Apple Close at 9.43am yesterday, one ambulance attended the scene."
"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man."
"Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
