China: Guangdong recovers from weakening Typhoon Ragasa
Storyline: Guangdong Province in south China is recovering from weakening Typhoon Ragasa, which landed in Yangjiang City on Wednesday, incurring severe flooding and widespread damage. In Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City, firefighters evacuated elderly residents with limited mobility from a village threatened by seawater intrusion and flooding. Rescuers carried them on the back and waded through waist-deep water to emergency shelters. Community workers and firefighters in Doumen District did the same on Wednesday. The typhoon also brought strong wind to Shenzhen, uprooting many large trees that blocked roads and damaged vehicles parked at roadside. Firefighters used chainsaws to cut the fallen trees, clear debris and restore road access. As the typhoon weakened to a severe tropical storm after 14:00 on Wednesday, Zhuhai downgraded its typhoon warning to orange and lifted city-wide suspensions on work, business, markets, transport, and schools. Repair teams are now working to restore power, water, communications, and clear debris. Transport networks are gradually resuming service. As of Thursday morning, high-speed rail lines including Beijing-Guangzhou, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong, and Hangzhou-Shenzhen had successively resumed operations. The Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity railway reopened at 08:00, and Hainan's island-looping high-speed train is scheduled to restart from 11:00. Major infrastructure projects have also resumed construction. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link resumed two-way traffic at 20:30 on Wednesday, while the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge reopened at midnight on Wednesday following a joint decision by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao authorities. Local governments across Guangdong continue to coordinate recovery efforts to restore normalcy as soon as possible. Shotlist: Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, south China - Sept 24, 2025: 1.
