Both tourists and locals are finding relief from sore muscles as therapists armed with wooden hammers deliver rhythmic strikes to ease away tension.

Footage shows a Tok Sen practitioner working with tools such as a mallet, chisel, and tapping stick, traditionally crafted from tamarind wood, to stimulate muscles across a client's body.

He can be seen pressing a cylindrical stick into the hip while striking it with a hammer, sending vibrations deep into the tissue.

The technique is repeated across the back, neck, and legs, generating vibrations that release stiffness, reach deep into the muscles and fascia, and restore mobility.

Thailand has become renowned worldwide for its massage culture, which is both a cornerstone of local tradition and a major draw for international visitors.

Tok Sen, a centuries-old therapy from Northern Thailand, involves tapping wooden instruments along the body's energy lines to improve circulation and ease pain.

Rooted in Lanna heritage, it combines rhythmic percussion with spiritual elements, with tools often blessed by monks before use.

Today, the country is recognised as one of the world's top destinations for massage and wellness, home to more than 11,000 spas.

Its enduring popularity comes from distinctive techniques that blend acupressure, stretching, and assisted yoga-like postures, offering treatments that are both therapeutic and revitalising.

Thai massage, or Nuad Thai, traces its origins back over 2,500 years, drawing on Indian Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and Buddhist practice. UNESCO has listed it as part of the world's Intangible Cultural Heritage in recognition of its cultural value.
