Protesters denounced the government’s austerity policies, prompting security forces to intervene and disperse the crowd. As police clashed with angry protesters, the president took the stage to portray himself as the only figure capable of “rebuilding Argentina’s miracle,” while criticizing opposition parties. Milei faces challenging legislative elections on Oct. 26, with half the Chamber of Deputies and one-third of Senate seats up for grabs. Milei's La Libertad Avanza party recently suffered a significant defeat in Buenos Aires provincial elections, securing only 33.8% compared to the Peronist opposition's 47%. Bessent said Monday that the Treasury "stands ready" to support Argentina, calling it "a systemically important US ally in Latin America" with "all options for stabilization on the table."
