Port Orange, United States - October 07, 2025 On October 7, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrested 15-year-old Shamari Slater for posting a written threat on Instagram saying he wanted to “hurt someone badly,” accompanied by two gun emojis. Slater was not at Spruce Creek High School when authorities contacted him at home. Following an interview, he was taken into custody without incident. The arrest also revealed that Slater violated the terms of his home detention from a prior arrest two weeks ago for resisting officers with violence. That charge occurred after he interfered with Port Orange police responding to a school bus bomb threat. Officials emphasized that threats made on social media carry serious consequences. Parents were urged to educate their children on the legal and personal risks of online threats.
