DEMONSTRATOR WAVING PALESTINIAN FLAG AT SIMON BOLIVAR MONUMENT BOGOTA, COLOMBIA - OCTOBER 7, 2025: Two years after the start of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, hundreds of residents of the Colombian capital took to the streets, holding sit-ins, demonstrations, and protests. One of the main routes stretched between the United States Embassy and Plaza de Bolívar. During the marches, participants carried giant Palestinian flags and organized cultural displays, while some demonstrators burned Israeli flags and banners featuring the face of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The demonstrations come amid heightened tensions between the Colombian government, which publicly encouraged pro-Palestinian supporters to participate, and the United States, which called on Colombia to protect its embassy. Tuesday marks two years since Israel launched a genocide against Palestinians following Hamas' assault. Since October 2023, the Israeli military has killed over 67,100 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly women and children. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave virtually uninhabitable, leading to mass displacement, starvation, and the spread of disease.
