I put my underwater camera down on the sand. A Crown of Thorns starfish approached and kept coming! (Had to move the camera or risked losing it.) The Crown of Thorns starfish is perhaps the most vicious echinoderm coral reef predator. In large numbers, the Crown of Thorns starfish can destroy coral reefs that take years to grow! Conservationists often remove this type of starfish from the reef or kill them.

In this instance, I rescued my camera and it escaped unharmed!
