Storyline China's National Day holiday spurs surge in travel, spending [Voice_over] According to WeChat Pay, China's major cities like Chongqing, Chengdu, Suzhou, and Dongguan joined Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen as top spenders. In terms of travel spending, purchases of public transportation tickets via WeChat Pay increased by 21% year-on-year. For leisure consumption, fitness-related transactions grew by 16%. Driven by the trade-in policies, spending on digital products rose by over 10% from a year ago. China’s outbound tourism also performed remarkably during the Golden Week. Data showed that cross-border payment transactions increased by 21% year-on-year. Due to visa-free policies for Chinese travelers in countries like South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, transactions in these destinations saw substantial growth. Alipay data revealed that the top five foreign destinations for Chinese tourist spending during the holiday were Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
