US, Los Angeles: Castaic Mountain Lion Cub Found In Middle of Residential Street
Los Angeles, United States - January 21, 2026 01/21/2026 01:00 am GMT-0800 CASTAIC, Calif. – A mountain lion cub believed to be possibly injured or confused was found alive early Wednesday morning in a residential neighborhood in Castaic, prompting a response from law enforcement. The cub was spotted shortly before 1 a.m. lying in the middle of Hillcrest Parkway, east of Olympic Street, near several homes. A 911 caller reported seeing a total of three mountain lions roaming the area before officers arrived. Units from the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area located the young mountain lion snoozing in the roadway. Authorities say the cub appeared calm as officers monitored the scene. Just before 2:30 a.m., as officers attempted to approach, the cub suddenly fled the street and ran into a nearby backyard.
