Intruder caught damaging artefacts inside Legislative Building in Washington
An intruder was caught on camera allegedly damaging artefacts inside the Legislative Building in Washington.
The suspect, identified by local media as Gunnar Schubert, 29, allegedly broke into the premises on the night of Sunday, October 5.
The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) Security alerted the Washington State Patrol, who detained the suspected trespasser within 10 minutes and took him into custody.
DES Director Matt Jones said: 'I appreciate the rapid response from DES staff and collaboration with our emergency response partners.
'We are reviewing security at the State Capitol Campus to ensure the safety of all who work and visit the campus.'
The Capitol Campus remains under heightened security as DES assesses the damage and begins restoration work.
Authorities confirmed the incident was not linked to political motives and involved an individual suffering from a mental health crisis.
