On October 12 in Zhuji, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, an 82-year-old woman living alone experienced a terrifying moment when a gas flash explosion occurred in her kitchen while she was cooking.

Just as she was about to turn off the stove, a sudden blast erupted. The force blew kitchen utensils apart, filling the room with fire and thick smoke.

Fortunately, the elderly woman quickly shut off the gas cylinder valve, and because her kitchen cabinets were made of fire-resistant materials, the flames did not spread further. Remarkably, she escaped without injury.

According to her grandson, Mr. Wang, the incident was likely caused when the gas hose became loose or detached while replacing the cylinder, leading to a gas leak. When the woman went to turn off the fire, the leaked gas mixed with air to form a flammable mixture, triggering a flash explosion.

Mr. Wang added that his grandmother has insisted on living alone in her hometown despite her family’s wishes for her to move to the city. He had recently renovated her kitchen, never expecting that a small gas pipe issue could cause such a dangerous accident.
