VARIOUS OF PEOPLE ATTENDING COMMEMORATION CEREMONY AT STADIUMBEIRUT, LEBANON - OCT. 12, 2025: Tens of thousands of people in Lebanon gathered on Sunday, Oct. 12, to commemorate Hezbollah leaders Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, who were killed in Israeli attacks last year. The event was held at the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium in the capital Beirut. According to Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar television, 74,475 scouts of all ages, both male and female, attended the event, which was described as "one of the largest scout gatherings in the world." Throughout the day, the scouts performed parades, resistance marches and various demonstrations. A huge poster of Nasrallah was displayed at the center of the stadium, while scouts waved the flags of Lebanon, Palestine, Iran, and Yemen. Israel launched military operations in Lebanon on Oct. 8, 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people, including Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, and injuring around 17,000. Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and senior leader Hashem Safieddine were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut, Nasrallah in September and Safieddine in October. A ceasefire was reached in November, but Israeli forces have conducted near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target activities of the Hezbollah group. Under the truce, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
