Israel and Hamas signed the ceasefire agreement on October 9 in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El Sheikh, bringing hope for an end to a war that has killed over 67,000 Palestinians in the enclave, a majority of them women and children. As the first phase of a ceasefire agreement took effect on Friday, residents of the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City have begun to return home, using any means of transport available. In a statement released on Sunday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis facing the returning population.
