Spain: Spanish workers, students rally in support of Palestine
Storyline: Unions across Spain on Wednesday organized mass strikes and walkouts as workers and students rallied nationwide in support of Palestine. Demonstrations were held in dozens of major cities. Around noon in Madrid, thousands of striking workers and students flooded the city center, chanting slogans like "Stop the genocide" and "Free Palestine." Many participants voiced doubts about the effectiveness of the current Gaza ceasefire. "We need actual intervention, not just slogans. So far, Europe and the international community have taken no concrete action. Everything now just feels like a facade. Of course, releasing hostages is a good thing, but more must be done. Israel has to fully withdraw from the area, and the international community must support a blockade on Israel," said Julieta, one of the demonstrators. "I think Europe absolutely should be doing more. They're still doing business with Israel and financing genocide. More action needs to happen now," said Javier, another participant. Israel and Hamas signed the ceasefire agreement on October 9 in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El Sheikh, bringing hope for an end to a war that has killed over 67,000 Palestinians in the enclave, a majority of them women and children. As the first phase of a ceasefire agreement took effect on Friday, residents of the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City have begun to return home, using any means of transport available. In a statement released on Sunday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis facing the returning population. Beyond the lack of adequate shelter and essential supplies, residents continue to confront the immediate threats of hunger and malnutrition. Shotlist: Madrid, Spain - Oct 15, 2025: 1.
