Princess Anne Visits Ukraine To Support Children Traumatised By War. The Princess Royal made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Tuesday to highlight the “traumatic experiences of children living on the frontline of the conflict,” Buckingham Palace said. During her visit, Princess Anne left a toy bear at a memorial for children killed since Russia’s full-scale invasion and spoke to young people reportedly taken from their homes by Russian forces. She also met President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the UK’s ongoing support for Ukraine. Anne paid respects at the Children’s Memorial in Kharkiv with First Lady Olena Zelenska and visited the Child Rights Protection Centre, speaking with children reunited with their families and staff helping bring others home. Since February 2022, Kyiv estimates at least 19,500 children have been deported or forcibly displaced to Russia or occupied territories, with just 1,605 returned. The visit follows UK sanctions targeting those allegedly involved in the forced deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children.
