On the afternoon of July 24, 2024, a young girl and three boys were playing by the side of a pond. One of the younger boys accidentally slipped into the water while washing his hands by the pond. Upon seeing this, the other two boys immediately jumped into the pond to rescue their friend. However, the water was deep, quickly submerging them over their heads. The three children who didn’t know how to swim struggled in the water.
Witnessing this scene, the young girl by the pond panicked and called out for her brother, repeatedly shouting for help.
In this critical moment, 72-year-old villager Zhou Si'an from Qiaotouhe Town arrived in time. Without hesitation, he jumped into the pond and swam towards one of the boys, bringing him back to the shore. Qiu Lixin from Meijiang Town, who was fishing nearby, rushed over. He grabbed a bamboo pole (specifically for water rescues) from the pond's edge and used it to pull the elderly man holding the child out of the water. He then successively brought the other two children to safety on the shore.
The entire rescue process took less than 2 minutes.
