Chinese and Malaysian troops conducted adaptive training on maritime security and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief from Friday to Sunday during a joint drill. Code-named "Peace and Friendship 2025," the drill runs from Oct. 15 through 23 in Malaysia and its surrounding waters. The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's ship Type 052D destroyer Yinchuan, Type 071 amphibious landing ship Jinggangshan and Type 056A corvette Jingmen arrived at Malaysia's Port Klang on Oct. 13 for the drill. The participating soldiers from both sides underwent adaptive training for spot inspection and capturing operations at Port Klang on Friday. During the exercise, Chinese soldiers boarded a small boat and, in mixed team with Malaysian soldiers, conducted inspections on a suspicious "merchant vessel." Inside the cabin, the team found a large quantity of "contraband" and subsequently apprehended the individuals on board according to protocol. After the training, Chinese and Malaysian soldiers engaged in on-site discussions to identify issues and optimize the training plan accordingly. From Saturday to Sunday, the participating Chinese and Malaysian soldiers engaged in skill exchanges at Malaysia's national disaster assistance and rescue camp in Puchong, focusing on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The soldiers introduced each other's rescue and disaster relief equipment and observed each other's practical operational process. They engaged in mutual learning to enhance each other's operational capabilities and cooperation levels. Chinese soldiers also presented the usage scenarios of the surgical cabin to their Malaysian counterparts, providing in-depth explanations about technical details of the remote surgical system. The live joint exercise involves multi-service forces from the Chinese and Malaysian militaries. Other ASEAN member states have been invited to send observers. The drill marks the sixth joint exercise of the "Peace and Friendship" series. It aims to deepen practical cooperation between the militaries of China and Southeast Asian countries, enhancing their capability to address non-traditional security threats and safeguard regional peace and stability.
