Cooler winter season arrives in Thailand as monsoon rains pass
The cooler winter season arrived in Thailand as the monsoon rains passed, bringing a welcome drop in temperatures across the north.
Footage captured dozens of locals and tourists strolling through Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai on October 21, enjoying the crisp, clear skies.
Visitors, bundled in warm clothing, gathered early to watch the sunrise over the horizon.
At the summit, temperatures dipped to 10 degrees Celsius (50°F), while the nearby Kew Mae Pan Viewpoint recorded a mild 12 degrees Celsius (53.6°F).
The Northern Regional Meteorological Centre forecast isolated thunderstorms and cool mornings across northern Thailand. Temperatures are expected to ease further as a moderate high-pressure system from China moves across southern China and north Vietnam, before spreading into upper Laos and northeast Thailand by Tuesday.
Easterly winds are influencing the Gulf of Thailand, the southern regions, and the Andaman Sea.
Rainfall is predicted in around 10 per cent of northern areas, mainly in Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai.
Suchada Thaensap, Secretary to the Minister of Digital Economy and Society and ministry spokesman, said the arrival of winter does not mean immediate cold conditions for all regions.
She added: 'The coldest period is expected between mid-December 2025 and early February 2026.'
