US: Police Prevent Shooting At Atlanta Airport After Armed Suspect Threat

Atlanta, United States - October 20, 2025 On October 20, 2025, at approximately 9:40 a.m., officers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport responded to a “person armed” alert at the Domestic South Terminal. The Cartersville Police Department had contacted Atlanta Police regarding a male suspect who had threatened to “shoot up” the airport. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued for the suspect and his vehicle. Officers located the suspect, Billy Jo Cagle, born October 1976, inside the South Terminal near the checkpoint and immediately detained him. A safety sweep of the outer perimeter revealed Cagle’s vehicle, where officers discovered a rifle in the backseat. Atlanta Police K-9 units conducted a search and recovered the weapon, clearing it and ensuring the scene was safe. Cagle faces multiple charges including Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Criminal Attempt to Commit Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Airport operations have resumed with no active threats to the public. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
