Belgium: Photo exhibition spotlights plight of Gaza children amid conflict
Storyline: A photo exhibition in Brussels is drawing attention to the dire conditions faced by children in Gaza, with graphic images and soul-stirring sounds that have left visitors heart-wrenching. The exhibit, organized jointly by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, the European Union, and Belgian authorities, aims at calling for more care for children in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing conflict. At the exhibition, photographs taken by Palestinian photographers document the suffering of children amid Israel's strikes. Scenes include a boy standing by a destroyed building, a girl staring helplessly at the rubble, and a crying infant in a father's arms. "Everything is gone, destroyed, and he's there standing, 'what am I to become now? Who is going to take care of me?' So that's what it says. It's all about war and the impact of war on the child's future," said Edith, a visitor. "I think it's very terrible. You see that people are suffering, and I think the world is not looking to all the pain they have. And I think the whole world have to support Palestine. We all have to do something for the the people there," said Benjamin, another visitor. Beyond the visuals, the exhibition includes audio recordings from Gaza, such as the clatter of pots and pans as children queue for food, immersing visitors in the harsh reality faced by children in Gaza. "I'm so happy for my grandson that he hopefully will grow up in a peaceful world. And it's sad to see that so many children lose the chances to grow up and it takes only a few minutes to destroy life. And it's very sad to see that. So yes, it's very touching," said Pascal, a visitor. The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is increasingly fragile, as it remains difficult to deliver large volumes of humanitarian aid and the humanitarian crisis on the ground remains severe.
