STORYLINE:

In the Gaza Strip, Iman Al-Masry, a 29-year-old mother, along with her three newborns, found refuge in a school in Deir el-Balah after being displaced.

Inside a classroom at the school, she has made a temporary home for her children. Meanwhile, her fourth child is being cared for in the nursery of a hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Al-Masry is among the 1.9 million Gazans who were forced to leave their homes in the Gaza Strip due to the conflict between the Israeli army and Hamas.

She left her home in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, on the fifth day of the conflict that erupted on Oct. 7.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): IMAN AL-MASRY, Gaza resident
"We were displaced from Beit Hanoun to Jabalia, then fled to Deir al-Balah due to the bombing. It was difficult to reach here because I was pregnant with four children (quadruplets).

There is no treatment, no medicine, no food or drink for a woman who has just given birth to four children.

I had to leave the hospital immediately after giving birth. I didn't sleep there. The hospital had no treatment capabilities, medicines, or painkillers.

After I gave birth to four children, I left the hospital with only three of them because the fourth suffered from a poor condition and stayed in the hospital.

I don't have money to buy the infant formula recommended by doctors for these children, and diapers for children of their age aren't available."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): SHOROUQ AL-MASRY, Gaza resident, Iman's sister
"We suffer from difficult living conditions. There is no proper shelter for children who don't receive good breastfeeding. It's hard to get her (Iman) food so she can breastfeed.

These children suffer because of food shortages and war. We used to live safely in our homes, but the situation has worsened. We were living in peace. At least we were able to provide food for the children."
