Delhi conducted its second cloud seeding trial on Tuesday, aimed at inducing artificial rain to combat rising air pollution levels in the national capital.
The operation was carried out by experts from IIT Kanpur, with a special flight conducting the trial over Khekra, Burari, Mayur Vihar, North Karol Bagh, Sadakpur, and Bhojpur.

Visuals from the trial show bright flares being fired into the clouds as part of the weather modification process. Officials said the area will now be monitored to assess whether artificial rain occurs, with the possibility of a second trial later in the day.

Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed the completion of the trial, adding that if successful, the government will implement a long-term cloud seeding plan until February 2026.
He noted, “We will conduct artificial rain daily or every alternate day, if weather conditions demand it.”

The first trial held last week over Burari failed to induce rain due to insufficient atmospheric moisture, but experts are hopeful that Tuesday’s conditions—under cloudy skies forecast by the IMD—will yield better results.
