ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE (OCT. 24, 2025) (ANADOLU – ACCESS ALL)
1. PALESTINIAN ACTIVIST AND RESEARCHER HALA SHOMAN SPEAKING TO REPORTER (English) ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE - OCT. 24: Palestinian activist and researcher Hala Shoman said Israeli attacks on health infrastructure in the Gaza Strip are part of a systematic effort to target future generations.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Friday, Oct. 24, during the final session of the Gaza Tribunal in Istanbul, Shoman described how hospitals, maternity clinics, obstetricians, and midwives have been deliberately targeted.
She said pregnant women are being forced to give birth in dire conditions, with mothers and infants dying due to inadequate health services. Shoman added that Israeli officials have admitted to specifically targeting pregnant women, turning childbirth into a traumatic experience.
Shoman noted that more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the conflict, erasing some family names, and called the attacks an extension of the settler-colonial ideology aimed at displacing people and replacing them with settlers.
- Gaza Tribunal
The four-day public session at Istanbul University from Thursday to Sunday marks the culmination of a year-long effort by international jurists, scholars and civil society figures to document Israel's crimes committed against Palestinians.
Saturday's sessions of the Tribunal focused on complicity, international systems, resistance, and solidarity.
Presided over by Richard Falk, former UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, the tribunal aims to produce a comprehensive “people’s record” of what participants describe as genocide, apartheid and systemic violations of international law in Gaza.
The tribunal’s jury of conscience includes Kenize Mourad, Christine Chinkin, Chandra Muzaffar, Ghada Karmi, Sami Al-Arian and Biljana Vankovska.
Its panel of jurists and observers is expected to issue a final opinion on Sunday, summarizing findings on genocide, apartheid, and systemic violations in Gaza.
