KOCAELI, TÜRKİYE - OCT. 30: Rescue teams recovered the bodies of parents from the rubble of a collapsed seven-story building in Türkiye’s Kocaeli province, authorities confirmed on Thursday, Oct. 30.

A seven-story building collapsed in Gebze district of Türkiye’s northwestern Kocaeli province early on Wednesday for reasons yet to be determined.

The incident occurred on Issıkgol Street in Mevlana neighborhood, prompting the dispatch of police, fire, and medical teams to the scene.

Governor Ilhami Aktas said in a live television broadcast that the cause of the building’s collapse has not yet been determined, noting that search and rescue operations remain the top priority.

He stated that initial reports suggest five people — all members of the same family — are trapped under the debris.

Judicial and technical investigations are ongoing under the coordination of the Gebze Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
