This was the heartwarming moment a dad realised more than 150 people had showed up for his surprise 70th birthday party.

Glenn Foreman, now 71, thought he was going out for a quiet dinner, but was met by 170 friends and family shouting ‘Surprise!' for his landmark celebration.

Glenn's daughter, Megan Dickson, 33, and her four siblings discreetly organised the event over the course of a year.

He had been told he and his family were going to a restaurant for dinner – but instead a large crowd of well-wishers were waiting for him at the local rugby club.

Video shows the moment Glenn pulled up to the venue and his emotional reaction as he realises what is happening.

Glenn, a retired business owner from Folkestone, Kent, said: "It was an unbelievable surprise and emotionally overwhelming. "

"I just couldn't believe it - I had no idea! "

"I was telling people they don't need to do this at my funeral, because they've already done it and I've lived to see it."

Megan and her siblings - Carly, Jodie, Gemma, and Lewis - had been planning the celebration since Glenn retired in January 2023.

They had been looking for a reason to celebrate and thought his 70th birthday was the perfect occasion.

To keep the preparations under wraps, the family used Gemma's 40th birthday, a month later, as a cover for party decorations and deliveries.

Megan, a dog behaviourist from Folkestone, Kent said: "My father said he would like a meal with family, but we decided he deserved more than that. "

"He worked incredibly hard all his life, built a business from scratch and raised five children. "

"It would have been unthinkable to let this milestone pass without proper celebration."

"Anything party-related that arrived at the house or prep meetings were disguised as being for Gemma's birthday. "

"Whenever he asked, we said it was for Gemma's 40th and he completely fell for it."

Glenn's children also went through his phone to collect contacts for invitations.

They planned to host the party at Folkestone Rugby Club - of which Glenn is chairman.

They booked the venue under the pseudonym Beverley Miller, a playful nod to American conductor Glenn Miller.

Megan said: "My dad attends Thursday evening rugby meetings so we could meet at my parents' house while he was out of earshot to finalise plans. "

"He never guessed a thing."

The children invited everyone they could think of and were overwhelmed when around 170 people turned up.

Megan said: "It was amazing seeing everyone who came. "

"His family, including 10 grandchildren and four sons-in-law, filled the room. "

"My sisters and I were speechless greeting them with champagne. "

"Everyone managed to keep it a secret, even though they saw him at the club weekly. We were so impressed."
