Tech Giants Pour Billions Into AI To Secure Industry Dominance. The world’s biggest tech companies are pouring unprecedented sums into artificial intelligence as competition intensifies to lead the AI revolution. Earnings reports from Meta, Alphabet and Microsoft reveal staggering levels of investment in data centres, chips and cloud infrastructure — even as questions remain about how quickly these outlays will pay off. Meta announced that its 2025 capital spending will hit between $70 and $72 billion, with even higher growth expected in 2026. CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the massive spending, saying the company must “accelerate” its efforts to seize the AI opportunity and enhance its apps and advertising business. Alphabet also lifted its forecast to as much as $93 billion this year — nearly double its 2024 spending while Microsoft reported quarterly capital expenditures of nearly $35 billion. CEO Satya Nadella said the company continues to invest heavily in AI “to meet the massive opportunity ahead” pointing to Azure and other AI products already driving real-world impact.
