South Korea - October 31, 2025 [Voiceover] A handshake watched around the world...signalling breakthroughs in China-US ties. Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held talks ahead of the APEC meeting in the Republic of Korea. The discussions focused on how the two leading economies can bring confidence to the world. President Xi said the business relationship should serve as the anchor and driving force, not a stumbling block or point of friction. President Trump said the two countries can accomplish many great things for the world and have many years of success. [Standup] Zhao Yunfei, Reporter: "China has called on the two sides should create conditions to development their ties, as President Xi told President Trump that both of them at the helm of China-US relations." [Voiceover] The meeting took place after several rounds of trade talks between the two delegations. The last one was held just last weekend...when the two sides agreed that the US suspend the 24-percent reciprocal tariffs for an additional year...while China will make corresponding adjustments to its countermeasures. CEOs from Asia-Pacific economies say there's significant potential to explore as the two countries work together. [Soundbite] David Hill, CEO, Deloitte Asia Pacific: "We've really seen CEOs be very adaptable, agile, be able to see that uncertainty as a source of opportunity to pivot the best and to make the most strategic moves. But now we are seeing a normalization in some of the trade relationships." [Soundbite] Kevin Xu, Co-Chair, APEC 2023 Host Committee & CEO, MEBO International: "China specializes in practical and actual experience on-site. In the U.S., there's more on scientific development and mechanism studies. It's always a convergence of two kinds of specialization into one that forms a new way of collaboration." [Voiceover] Data shows China's economy increased by 5.2 percent in the first three quarters of this year, and import and export trade in goods in the same period expanded by 4 percent. President Xi's attendance at APEC 2025 once again underscores China's commitment to dynamic Asia-Pacific growth. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
