This rocket is still here because I’m unable to remove it, and no one is coming to take it away so that I can live here safely before winter. The rocket is still in my house, and I’m afraid of it… I’m scared because I have children. I’m afraid that at any moment it might explode, destroying the house and the neighborhood. I have neighbors too, and just as I fear for myself, I fear for them. I can’t just sit here waiting for help. I keep calling and appealing to everyone. I am exhausted and out of time. I am pleading with anyone who can come and remove this rocket and the materials inside it, because I’m terrified that it might explode."

I stayed with my sister, then her house was destroyed, so we moved to another sister, and her house was also hit by airstrikes. When I left and went south, there was nothing available. I said I would go south until the truce. When the truce happened and I returned to my home, I found it like this — no walls, nothing. Everything was destroyed… destroyed… destroyed. Even my mattress, everything was taken. I have nothing at all.”

“We’re talking specifically about this. We must document it with photos. We’re working to clear and secure the whole area! We must protect our houses and protect the people here. Everyone here is doing their part — this is a man’s house and his family — and everyone is defending our homes. If they detonate it, the whole area will be blown up and everything else will be destroyed.”

GAZA CITY, PALESTINE - OCTOBER 30: A Palestinian family in Gaza City is living in a state of perpetual anxiety, forced to cohabit with a massive, unexploded Israeli bomb lodged in the wall of their home, as they have no other shelter.

The Al-Hatto family, residing in the Nafaq neighborhood, discovered the ordnance upon returning to their heavily damaged house after a recent ceasefire was declared. The weapon, identified as a "Mark 84" (MK-84) bomb—a free-fall munition capable of destroying entire building blocks—remains embedded in the structure, posing a grave threat.

"My house is upside down," Muin al-Hatto, the homeowner, told Anadolu. "I am afraid of it… I’m scared because I have children. I’m afraid that at any moment it might explode, destroying the house and the neighborhood."

Al-Hatto described a desperate situation, having cleaned a small portion of the upper floor to make it barely habitable, while the floor containing the bomb remains inaccessible. He has repeatedly appealed to authorities for its removal, but to no avail.

"I am exhausted and out of time," he said. "I am pleading with anyone who can come and remove this rocket... I am living in fear."

The family's plight is compounded by the extensive destruction across Gaza, leaving them with no viable alternatives. Al-Hatto recounted being displaced multiple times, only to find each subsequent refuge also hit by airstrikes.
The danger extends beyond a single household. Hani al-Safedi, a neighbor, emphasized the collective fear in the community.

"We must protect our houses and protect the people here," al-Safedi said. "If they detonate it, the whole area will be blown up and everything else will be destroyed."

This recent escalation follows more than two years of conflict that began on October 7, 2023, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 68,000 people in Gaza, according to the same medical sources.

The current ceasefire, which allowed the Al-Hatto family and others to return to their homes, was reached earlier this month based on a 20-point peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
