Terrified residents scream in night as building suddenly sinks in China
At around 11 p.m. on 1 November, a residential building (Unit 38) in the Taiyang Community of Yunyang Subdistrict, Danyang, Jiangsu Province, suddenly experienced uneven subsidence, causing cracks and deformation in the structure.
Video footage shows residents screaming in shock after being awakened in the middle of the night by the unexpected incident.
Following the event, local government departments quickly arrived at the scene to handle the situation. All residents were safely evacuated, and no casualties were reported.
The area has since been cordoned off, and safety monitoring, cause investigation, and resident relocation work are all underway in an orderly manner.
On 2 November, the Danyang Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau issued a statement confirming that other buildings in the complex were unaffected and urged residents to stay clear of the restricted zone.
