Commuters said water quickly pooled ankle-deep on the grey carpeted floor, splashing against white paneling, red handrails, and a yellow safety barrier.

The level rose to lap at the base of the driver's console, where dashboard screens and controls were partially reflected.

AEMET, Spain's national weather agency, maintained an orange alert for heavy rain and storms in Seville, despite residents saying the situation felt more like a red-alert scenario.

The storm was linked to the same Atlantic weather front that earlier brought torrential rain and tornadoes to Huelva and parts of the Costa del Sol.

Officials urged the public to follow emergency service instructions to avoid a repeat of last year's disaster.
