A worker has died after part of a medieval tower in Rome collapsed on November 3.

Octav Stroici, 66, was trapped in the rubble for 11 hours before he passed away on the way to hospital.

The Torre dei Conti, located in the Imperial Forum area, has partially collapsed for reasons yet to be determined. A very loud bang, passers-by report, affected the four workers who were working on its delicate restoration.

A second collapse occurred shortly before 1 p.m. at the Torre dei Conti, on Via dei Fori Imperiali, Rome, following the one that took place on monday, November 3, at 11:20 a.m. Several people were present at the site while rescue operations were underway. The disaster claimed the life of Octay Stroici, a 66-year-old Romanian worker who had been trapped for more than eleven hours beneath the rubble of the Torre dei Conti collapse.

The ongoing work on the 13th-century tower is part of a €6.9 million project funded by the PNRR's "Caput Mundi" funds. After the relocation of the public offices it housed in 2006, the building remained unused and lacking in maintenance. For this reason, in addition to the interventions aimed at its enhancement, it was necessary to also include structural consolidation works. After decades of abandonment, restoration work had begun about a year ago.
