UNCAPTIONED: Kristin Chenoweth 'nearly broken' by Charlie Kirk backlash
Kristin Chenoweth 'nearly broken' by Charlie Kirk backlash. The 57-year-old Broadway star faced heavy criticism following her public tribute to the right-wing political activist, who was fatally shot on 10 September. On Monday, Chenoweth told The Hollywood Reporter she was left devastated by the disapproval that she faced from fans after she appeared to agree with some of the controversial media personality's views. When asked about the negative reaction, Chenoweth shared, "It was tough on me, but I'm not going to answer any questions about it because I dealt with it.” The Wicked actress continued, "It nearly broke me, and that's all I'm going to say. You probably know my heart, so you probably know.” Chenoweth took to Instagram to express her grief after 31-year-old Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University during an event in September. She wrote, "I'm. So. Upset. Didn't always agree but appreciated some perspectives. What a heartbreak. His young family. I know where he is now. Heaven. But still.” Some fans interpreted the gushing tribute as a show of support for Kirk, who opposed same-sex marriage and was critical of gay and transgender rights. When later asked what she had hoped to convey in her post during an interview with NY1's Frank DiLella, the tearful actress replied: ”Oh, goodness, I'm sorry if emotion gets involved here, forgive me. I saw what happened online with my own eyes and I had a human moment of reflection right then.” [Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT]
