This is the hilarious moment a black cat sniffed his owner's shorts, only to grimace at the smell.

Liu, the curious feline, was seen standing on his hind legs as he sniffed the clothes of his keeper, who was standing upright in Bangkok, Thailand.

The kitty then backed away, ears folded and mouth wide open, after smelling the shorts on November 4.

His reaction sent Preeda Indra, one of his owners, into fits of laughter.

Preeda said: 'It might be the smell of another house's cat. Every time my friend goes out, my cat comes to sniff him and opens his mouth like this.'

Cats often open their mouths and grimace after sniffing strong or unfamiliar scents as part of the flehmen response, a behaviour that helps them analyse smells using a specialised organ in their mouth.
