PHU YEN, VIETNAM - NOVEMBER 8, 2025: Five people were killed, three went missing and 17 others were injured as Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in Vietnam, authorities said on Saturday. Officials reported that 244 homes were completely destroyed and 17,562 were partially damaged. About 2.3 million people were affected, and roughly 398,000 took shelter in evacuation centers, according to the Vietnam News website.
Footage filmed on Saturday shows fishing boats lying destroyed along the shore in a village on Xuan Dai Bay after being swept away by the storm, leaving many residents without work.
Kalmaegi is the latest in a series of storms to hit Vietnam this year, causing widespread human and material losses. Initial damage is estimated at 7.05 trillion VND.
Heavy rain and wind also disrupted power supply in several areas, with over 1.6 million people experiencing power outages.
The typhoon also sank 21 vessels, and 44 others were damaged by the waves that also caused damage to crops and livestock.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, the death toll from Kalmaegi has risen to 204, with 109 people reported missing, according to state-run media.
