This is the dramatic moment residents carried their pet dogs to safety as Typhoon Kalmaegi engulfed villages in floods in the Philippines.

Footage shows distressed locals wading through inundated streets, clutching their four-legged companions as they evacuated their submerged homes in Cebu on November 4.

Kalmaegi, locally known as Tino, has killed at least 114 people and displaced hundreds of thousands across the country.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the storm dumped more than a month's worth of rain in just 24 hours in Southern Leyte and Cebu.

The freak weather system packed maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and gusts of up to 190 kph as it moved towards central Vietnam.
