Storyline: A car explosion near the historic Red Fort in central Delhi on Monday evening killed at least 10 people and injured several others, prompting high alert in multiple cities across India. The blast occurred inside a car near the historic monument Red Fort. According to police, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light on the road, and then a blast took place. The explosion triggered a fire on nearby vehicles, damaging nearly two dozens. Security has been tightened nationwide following the incident, including in the financial center Mumbai, the Uttar Pradesh which borders Delhi, and major railway stations across the country. "We were having tea around 18:35 to 18:40 in the evening when the explosion suddenly happened near the traffic lights over there. We were stunned for several minutes seeing the blast, then immediately grabbed our equipment with cameramen and started filming. We saw 10 to 12 vehicles damaged. This is a pedestrian street. So it was all in mess, and everyone was running to escape. I saw 18 to 20 people injured right in front of me. Some were lying in cars, and some were on fire. I witnessed this tragedy with my own eyes," recounted an eyewitness identified as Kumar. Immediately after the blast, firefighters, police officers and forensic experts reached the spot to investigate the blast. India's premier terror probe agency, National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the National Security Guard (NSG) joined the investigation. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to bereaved families via social media, confirming he had reviewed the situation with Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah and other officials. Shah stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway and security agencies would soon reach conclusions. The Red Fort, a 17th-century Mughal-era monument and regular tourist destination, serves as the site where Indian prime ministers deliver their Independence Day addresses annually.
