Typhoon Fung-Wong moved closer to China's Taiwan region on Tuesday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain as authorities issued land warnings and canceled surfing tests for the 15th National Games in Guangdong Province, southern China. As of 17:00 Tuesday, the storm was located about 285 kilometers southwest of Taiwan's Eluanbi, moving north-northeastward at around 10 kilometers per hour with gradually weakening intensity. It is expected to make a second landfall along Taiwan’s southwestern coast from Wednesday afternoon to evening. Following a maritime warning issued Monday evening, the island's meteorological authorities released a land warning early Tuesday for Typhoon Fung-Wong. Heavy rainfall is forecast for several mountainous regions, with parts of Yilan County expected to see torrential or extremely heavy rain. Similar conditions are likely in the mountainous areas of Taipei and New Taipei City. In Taiwan, "torrential rain" refers to continuous rainfall with a daily accumulation of at least 130 millimeters. Meanwhile, pre-competition tests for the 15th National Games surfing event at Qing'ao Bay in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, were canceled due to strong winds triggered by the typhoon.
