Storyline: Smart technology shapes Beijing-based steel plant into lighthouse factory [Voice_over] As part of China's plan to optimize and upgrade its traditional industries, a cold rolling factory that processes steel in Beijing is being highlighted for its exceptional use of technology. At the Shougang Cold Rolling factory, robotic arms move 25-ton steel coils into designated areas, while sensors collect data from thousands of collection points. The 200,000 square meter facility houses four production lines that are monitored in real time in the factory's control center by human workers. Engineers at the factory say the intelligent logistics and warehouse system have dramatically cut the amount of time it takes to prepare a materials schedule. [Sound_bite] Tian Jing, Engineer, Manufacturing Department, Shougang Cold Rolling factory: "We spent three to four days finishing a working schedule of one month. But now the AI system takes only 30 minutes to finish it." [Voice_over] The factory makes things like steel sheets for the auto industry, which have some of the highest standards in the steel sector. A factory worker says they can make a zinc-coated steel sheet in about 20 minutes. [Sound_bite] Zhang Wei, worker: "This is a zinc-coated steel sheet. It's smooth and shining, just like a mirror. The thickness of zinc coating is only seven microns, about one-tenth the diameter of the strand of human hair." [Voice_over] The factory was selected as global "lighthouse factory" this January.
