This is the dramatic moment brave drivers dragged away a giant anaconda that was blocking a road in Brazil.

Motorists spotted the 18ft serpent crossing the Marechal Rondon Highway (SP-300), between Aracatuba and Guararapes, in Sao Paulo state.

Footage shows residents pulling the colossal reptile with a rope tied around its head, while a woman holds its tail, on November 8.

Moments later, firefighters arrived and confirmed that the snake was unharmed and safely returned to its natural habitat.

Anacondas are among the largest snakes in the world and are native to South America, particularly in tropical river systems such as the Amazon and Orinoco basins. The green anaconda - the largest species - can grow over 20ft (6m) in length and weigh more than 200lbs (90kg).

Although non-venomous, anacondas are powerful constrictors that kill their prey by coiling around it and cutting off its airflow.

Despite their enormous size, anaconda attacks on humans are extremely rare.
