This is the shocking moment a newly opened bridge spanning 2,500ft collapses in China.

Police had closed the Hongqi Bridge to all traffic on Monday afternoon when reports of cracks on nearby slopes and roads, as well as shifts in the surrounding terrain of the mountain in Sichuan.

The following day, authorities said the mountainside conditions had deteriorated, triggering landslides that caused the collapse of the bridge's approach span and roadbed.

Footage shows a plume of dust and debris rising from the mountainside as the structure gives way, falling into the waters below, while further clouds of debris blanket the area.

Local media reported that construction of the bridge was completed earlier this year.

No injuries were reported, and officials have not provided an estimated timeline for the reopening of the highway.
