GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - NOV. 13: Thousands of displaced Palestinian families in the central Gaza Strip are facing worsening conditions as winter approaches, after two years of Israeli attacks destroyed their homes and forced them to live in makeshift shelters.
Many have taken refuge in Deir al-Balah, where they say they lack proper tents, shelters or container homes.
Families are surviving in structures pieced together from fabric and plastic sheets, which provide little protection from rain, wind or cold.
Parents say they fear the coming weeks as temperatures drop and storms become more frequent.
Under the ceasefire terms, 600 aid trucks are expected to enter Gaza daily, but the number has remained limited to around 150 due to restrictions, resulting in severe shortages of tents and other shelter materials.
Earlier Thursday, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said more than 282,000 homes in Gaza were destroyed or damaged during the Israeli war, forcing tens of thousands of families to live in tents as winter approaches.
During the past two winters, strong winds and heavy rain tore apart or flooded tens of thousands of tents, destroying personal belongings as they became coated in mud.
At the end of September, Gaza’s government media office reported that 93 percent of all displacement tents in the enclave had collapsed and were no longer suitable for living.
