7. DISPLACED PALESTINIAN WOMAN MAJDIYYA SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic) DEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - DEC. 29: Severe rain and strong winds affect thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, further damaging already fragile living conditions.
In the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah, heavy rain and strong winds intensify from Saturday evening, Dec. 28, flooding tents and damaging basic household items used by displaced families.
Tents remain submerged in water, personal belongings are soaked, and children take shelter inside vehicles as conditions worsen.
Displaced Palestinians say the collapse of infrastructure and ongoing restrictions leave them without adequate shelter, clothing, or basic supplies.
A displaced Palestinian man says the rain floods their tents overnight, leaving children without dry clothes and families without essential items.
A displaced woman, identified as Majdiyya, says she lacks basic resources to care for her children as floodwaters enter their shelter.
With most buildings in Gaza destroyed and Israel blocking the entry of mobile homes and construction materials, many Palestinians have been forced to shelter in cracked, unstable structures at risk of collapse.
Although the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, living conditions have not significantly improved, as Israel has failed to meet its commitments under the agreement, including allowing agreed quantities of food, aid, medical supplies and mobile housing into Gaza.
Israel has fallen short of fulfilling its obligations under the first phase of the agreement, particularly a halt to hostilities, as Israeli forces have continued to launch attacks, which killed at least 414 Palestinians and wounded 1,142 since the ceasefire.
The Israeli army has killed over 71,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 171,200 others in its genocide in Gaza since October 2023.
