BBC Apologises to Donald Trump Over Panorama Edit. The BBC apologised to Donald Trump for an edited Panorama segment that helped prompt the resignations of Tim Davie and Deborah Turness. Despite apologising, the BBC refused Trump’s demand for compensation after he threatened a $1bn lawsuit. The corporation has agreed the Panorama episode will not be aired again on any BBC platform. BBC chair Samir Shah sent a letter to the White House apologising for the misleading edit of Trump’s 6 January speech. Internal concerns arose after ex-adviser Michael Prescott flagged broader editorial issues, which the BBC denies. Legal experts say Trump’s chances of success are low, partly because the programme didn’t air in Florida and the UK limitation period has passed. Similar editing issues were later found in a 2022 Newsnight broadcast that also spliced together parts of Trump’s speech. UK politicians are split on Trump’s lawsuit: Davey calls it excessive, Farage backs claims of BBC bias.
