China: Tonga's king continues state visit in Beijing
Storyline: King Tupou VI of the Kingdom of Tonga arrived in Beijing on Monday night to continue his state visit to China. At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, King Tupou VI is paying a state visit to China from Nov. 21 to 27, marking his first visit to China in seven years. Over the past few days, the King has toured cities in Fujian Province, including Fuzhou and Ningde, focusing on bilateral cooperation in agriculture, education, trade, public health and cultural exchange. He also learned about Fujian’s poverty alleviation experience and the rapid growth of China’s new-energy industries. This visit comes as China and Tonga celebrate 27 years of diplomatic relations. Political trust between the two countries has continued to deepen, and Tonga has consistently reaffirmed its firm commitment to the one-China principle. In recent years, the bilateral cooperation has expanded in poverty reduction, climate action, agriculture and fisheries, health and China’s Juncao technology. During this visit, leaders from both sides are expected to hold in-depth discussions on bilateral ties and regional and global issues of shared common concern.
