China: Chinese excavator makers go global with smart machinery
Storyline: Chinese excavator makers go global with smart machinery [Voice_over] Chinese excavator manufacturers are digging out a successful export model with machinery that features things like remote control, automation, and AI-assisted diagnostics. At one construction machinery plant in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a remotely operated excavator is performing precise digging and loading tasks. From a control room hundreds of meters away, a technician directs its every movement with a joystick. [Sound_bite] Qin Debao, Technician, global R&D center, Guangxi LiuGong: "The excavator is equipped with a 360-degree panoramic camera for a bird's-eye view, supplemented by eight additional cameras for full perimeter monitoring. Multiple sensors also track the machine's real-time operating posture." [Voice_over] Besides hardware upgrades, the excavator manufacturer also provides data-driven services. Its global monitoring platform now tracks the health of its equipment worldwide and provides multilingual remote maintenance support with the help of AI diagnostics. [Sound_bite] Ai Jianlin, Senior manager, global R&D center, Guangxi LiuGong: "The system supports 12 languages and has issued over 120,000 diagnostic recommendations and maintenance decisions since 2024, with an accuracy rate exceeding 85 percent. This has boosted overall service efficiency by approximately 30 percent, significantly reducing repair costs and improving our response time for overseas clients." [Voice_over] According to the China Construction Machinery Association, China sold nearly 90,000 excavators in the first nine months of the year and exported another 85,000.
