Storyline: China completes 1st phase of 6G technology trials [Voice_over] After four straight years of rigorous testing that yielded a portfolio of more than 300 key technologies, China has officially completed the first phase of its 6G technology trials, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said recently. According to officials, the country’s 6G trial consists of three phases, with the initial one focusing on validating core technical capabilities. MIIT officials said the next stages will shift to building prototypes for targeted application scenarios and then to developing pre-commercial equipment and testing key products. [Sound_bite] Zhang Yunming, Chinese Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology: "China will make continuous efforts to strengthen research on core technology and integrated technical solutions, and advance technical research and development, standard development, test verification, and application cultivation in an integrated manner, laying a solid foundation for 6G standardization and industrialization." [Voice_over] Experts say 6G is the world’s most important digital information infrastructure for the coming decade, and will integrate breakthroughs in communications, sensing, computing, and more. As part of its push to commercialize 6G by 2030, China established a group in 2019 to fast-track innovation. Since then, the group has released over 80 white papers and research reports in the field. [Sound_bite] Wang Zhiqin, deputy head, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology; head, 6G Promotion Group: "We entered the research and development and testing phase for equipment in 2025. This year, we have also progressed from isolated key technologies to tests for scenario-oriented, systematic technical solutions."
