Tesla has shattered Norway’s yearly car sales record, selling more vehicles in 2025 than any automaker has ever achieved in a full year — with a month still remaining. Registration data shows Tesla sold 28,606 cars between January and November, surpassing Volkswagen’s 2016 record of 26,575. The surge has been driven largely by the Model Y, with Tesla’s sales in Norway rising 34.6% year-to-date despite a wider European backlash against Elon Musk. In November alone, Tesla registered 6,215 new cars, contributing to a nationwide rush as buyers moved quickly before new EV taxes take effect in January. Overall car sales in Norway jumped 70% year-on-year in November, with fully electric vehicles making up a remarkable 97.6% of all new registrations. Norway’s long-standing goal of ending sales of petrol and diesel cars by 2025 supported the EV boom, cementing Tesla’s strong position in the market. While Tesla thrives in Norway, global deliveries are expected to fall 7% this year, with European sales down around 30% through October and further declines in November.
