This solo fisherman's trip turned into a nightmare when he accidentally impaled his wrist with a hook.

After being unable to remove it, he was forced to drive to the nearest hospital for a safe removal.

He told Newsflare: "I was kayak fishing by myself in a remote river in western NSW. I through my lure out and it became snagged on a branch so I yank a touch too hard and it came flying back at my face so I put my arm up to shield it from hitting my head and the hook sunk into my wrist.

"I was downstream from my car and I couldn’t paddle back upstream with it in my arm so I had to attempt to get it out. The hook was too close to the veins in my wrist so I couldn’t rip it out and I was an hour + from the nearest hospital.

"After 40 minutes I managed to separate the lure from the hook using some pliers. I still managed to catch another fish on my way back to the car with the hook still in my arm. Drove to the hospital and they were able to take it out."
