A Rarely Filmed Circling School of Cownose Rays in the Gulf of Mexico

I spotted this mesmerizing school of rays about 1/3 of a mile from the beach near Clearwater, Florida. In the decades that I've been filming schools of rays and other wildlife this is the first time I've seen a spherical rotating school of rays. This is a defense mechanism. They do this to confuse predators like sharks and to keep a predator from singling out one of the rays.
